The Friends of St Mary’s Cathedral are honoured to host Cathedral sacristan, Mr Chris Backhouse, for our first speaker event of 2017. Just before Palm Sunday and Holy Week, Chris will be speaking about ‘The Ceremonies of Holy Week and Easter’: in particular the practical considerations for these liturgies which are of paramount importance to the Christian life, and the massive amount of work which goes in to making the Cathedral’s liturgies special.

The talk will be held at 6.30pm (after Vespers and Mass) on 6th April 2017 in the foyer of Br Hoffman Hall (the Cathedral College’s main school hall), accessible through the Cathedral House outdoor car-park. The talk will last about 45 minutes, with opportunity for questions afterwards, followed by some light refreshments.

Come and join the Friends for an event which will be both educational and social. Non-members are certainly welcome, and there will be an opportunity to find out more about the Friends and to join on the evening.

Special half-price tickets are available for Members who buy online: if you are a member and cannot see the Members’ price of $5 each, then you will need to log in. If you do not have a password, please send an email to, and we will happily send you one. Tickets will also be available at the door.
