We are delighted to be joined again by Thomas Wilson for a talk. Thomas is the Cathedral’s Director of Music. He has recently returned from a tour with Saint Mary’s Cathedral Choir, first to a Gregorian Chant festival in western Belgium, then to Italy (Rome, Florence, Siena), and then—with the Lay Clerks—to the Netherlands. Thomas will be able to tell us about the experience of touring with such a varied programme, and some of the lessons which have been learned from the experience.
Having grown up in New Zealand, Thomas moved to London in 2003 to study at the Royal Academy of Music. He held a number of positions at Ealing Abbey and Westminster Cathedral before beginning at St Mary’s Cathedral in 2010. Since then he has revolutionized the work of the Cathedral Choir, which now sings at over 600 scheduled services a year.
The talk will be held at 6.30pm (after Vespers and Mass) on Thursday 14th June 2018 in the Cathedral Choir Rooms, accessible down steps next to the crypt cloister. We are grateful to Thomas and the Music Department for inviting us into the Choir Rooms, which are not open to the general public. The talk will last about 45 minutes, with opportunity for questions afterwards, followed by wine and cheese.
Come and join the Friends for what will certainly be a fascinating evening. Non-members are welcome, and there will be an opportunity to find out more about the Friends and to join on the evening.
